Yorkshire in Bloom - Solberge Hall Hotel's Yorkshire Rose Silver Award

Hard Work Paying Off As Hall’s Glory Is Restored

Ever since the Solberge Hall became a member of Thoroughbred Hotels in March 2006, everyone associated with this magnificent Georgian county house and estate has been working tirelessly to return it to its former glory and put it back on the hospitality map.

There is overwhelming that all their efforts are paying off, with a mountain of maintenance work now completed, the redevelopment of the Clocktower Suite, the redecoration of several bedrooms and the opening last December of Silks Brasserie, a stylish 50 seater restaurant.

General Manager John Hewitt said “We’ve faced many challenges over the past year but feel we are now on our way to achieving our goal of opening up the Solberge Hall to a wider clientele including families.”

The hotel is perhaps better known as a perfect venue for wedding and corporate functions.  While this remains the case, we want to extend its delights to anyone who wants to enjoy superb accommodation, excellent food and a friendly service all within an exquisite country setting.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us over the last year, not only for their patronage but for their invaluable comments which have helped us to move things in the right direction.”

Plans for the hotel’s future include the on going refurbishment of the hotel bedrooms and development of the hotels nine acres of formal gardens and woodland area for the further pleasure and enjoyment of visitors.  In addition the hotel has received planning permission to build another function/conference room – adjoining and in keeping with the main house – with its own bar, kitchen and restroom facilities.  Seating up to 160 guests comfortably, the new room will be light and airy with wonderful views across the hotel grounds and Hambleton Hills beyond.

“We plan to begin construction towards the end of October to avoid our busy Summer/Autumn wedding schedule and aim to have it up and running by early Spring of 2008,” said Mr Hewitt.

“At that time we also intend to start a revamp of the ground floor and all public rooms in the main house in a style befitting the property and its period.”

The Solberge Hall Hotel is the second property in the Thoroughbred Hotels portfolio, the first being Swynford Paddocks, near Newmarket.  The owners plan to expand this combined racing connection and country hotel experience, with the purchase of another three hotels around the country.

Silks a Racing Certainty for Success!

Situated near Newby Wiske and surrounded by glorious North Yorkshire Countryside, the Solberge Hall Hotel was, until recently, the exclusive preserve of wedding parties and corporate events.  But owners Paul and Lucie Smith wanted to share the beauty of this magnificent Georgian house and country estate with more people and decided that the best way to do this was to introduce a restaurant for non-residential visitors.

The result is the Silks Brasserie a stylish 50 seater restaurant promising the same kind of friendly service and elegant yet informal atmosphere which have become the coveted trademarks of the Solberge as an idyllic wedding venue.

With a tasteful racing theme – hence the name – complimented by the picturesqueviews of the beautiful gardens and grounds, visitors to Silks can experience genuine hospitality together with a fine selection of dishes, which feature as much fresh produce from local suppliers as possible and offers something to suit all tastes, from tasty Italian favourites to traditional English fare to a variety of vegetarian dishes and classical French delights.

All dishes are prepared to the highest standards, something which, visitors can witness for themselves thanks to the open plan design of the restaurant and kitchen.

It’s a novel idea and yet another example of the individual dining experience the hotel aims to offer each and every visitor, at a surprisingly reasonable price.

What’s more, the hotel provides the ideal eating out venue for families.  Great food apart, the adults can sit back and relax while the children enjoy the freedom and safety of nine acres of gardens and woodland, a particularly appetising thought during the summer months, when visitors can dine al fresco, in the restaurants adjoining courtyard.

Silks Brasserie and Courtyard are open every day from 10.00 pm to 10.00 pm serving morning coffee, afternoon tea, lunch and dinner.  Please telephone 01609 779191 to make your reservation.

The Solberge Hall Hotel is part of Paul and Lucie Smith’s Thoroughbred Hotels, and sister hotel to Swynford Paddocks Hotel, near Newmarket, which also includes a Silks Brasserie.  The racing connection is no coincidence as the couple painstakingly seek out county hotel locations in prime racing country to offer clients the perfect relaxing experience in exquisite settings and surroundings.

Extension adds a whole new dimension to Solberge Hall Hotel

With an exquisite country setting near Newby Wiske in North Yorkshire and an enviable reputation for its superb accommodation facilities, food and service, it’s hard to imagine how Solberge Hall Hotel can get any better.

But better it gets, year after year, as everyone associated with this lovely country house hotel works hard to create the ultimate hospitality venue.

The hotel’s latest development features a brand new, purpose built conference and banqueting room which caters for up to 200 people. Thanks to the fact that it comes complete with integral bar, kitchen and rest room facilities, this suite can provide the perfect setting for all sorts of special functions and occasions – business or personal, large or more intimate.

The exterior of this new extension – appropriately called The Hambleton Suite – has been designed to blend seamlessly with the original building, with the interior has been given a modern, tasteful look in keeping with the style of décor adopted throughout the hotel.

With 22 floor-to-ceilling windows and doors letting in natural light, to say that the room is light and airy would be an understatement.

The suite opens on to two attractive external terraces which offer stunning views of the hotel’s gorgeous grounds and gardens in one direction and of the surrounding country side and Hambleton Hills in the other.

Either way if offers an amazing backdrop for some wonderful photographs.
